Barbara conducted a reading with a focus on the interviews she did for her study. This was a Writers' League of Texas sponsored event, and was open to the public.

11.27.07 “Women, Race and Beauty” panel discussion at Glamour Magazine

Barbara was asked to participate in a panel discussion at Glamour's headquarters in New York City regarding the recent controversy over racist statements made by a Glamour employee. Read more about Barbara's experience at the Glamour panel. The panel will be covered in Glamour's March magazine.

11.3.07 Silent Racism at Texas Book Festival

The festival was a great experience for Barbara. Silent Racism attracted many book lovers to her booth. Barbara gave out well over 100 Silent Racism bookmarks and sold a good number of books.

9.8.07 Presentation At The Texas State Underrepresented Student Council Leadership Retreat

The group of students attending this retreat at Texas State University where Barbara teaches had many questions about silent racism. Issues such as reverse discrimination the role of intention in performing racist acts were discussed.

8.25.07 Presentation At The Center For The Healing Of Racism

The diverse group of 40 that attended this all-day workshop at The Center for the Healing of Racism in Houston, Texas thoroughly embraced Barbara and her message about silent racism. How to increase the race awareness of well-meaning white people was just one of the topics discussed.

8.10.07 Workshop At The Society for the Study of Social Problems Annual Meeting

Although the number of participants in this SSSP workshop at the national meeting in New York was small, the reception of the material on silent racism was very enthusiastic. One of the many topics discussed was the difference between prejudice—an individual trait—and racism—a societal issue.

8.5.07 Silent Racism Presentation At The Ethical Society of Austin

Barbara spoke to a very receptive group of 25 at an Ethical Society meeting at Laguna Gloria in Austin, Texas. Her talk about silent racism generated a lively discussion about racism, including racial profiling and other topical issues.
